Compassion is the ability to recognize when others are in pain or despair, and help them. Compassion is to relieve others from their misery. Compassion is useful and can be used to help root strong friendships or any types of connections.
Compassion is understanding others feelings and is to show empathy towards them. Here's an example.
Srila Prabhupada showed compassion to others by giving them knowledge of The Supreme Personality of Godhead. Even though he was old and in his eighties, he still went on. Even though he had not one, but two heart attacks on his journey, but that did not stop him. He went on.
Srila Prabhupada delivered the message of the Supreme Lord to millions of people, and transformed their lives. Here is a story to give another example.
Once, there was a sadhu traveling through a village. He spent his time chanting the name of the Lord. Some time later he came across a well and decided to drink some water.
When the sadhu bent over to drink, he saw a small scorpion struggling to get out.The kind hearted sadhu wanted to help it. He scooped up some water in his palm and tried to lift the scorpion out of the water, but the scorpion stung him and fell back into the water. The sadhu rubbed his hand to ease the pain and tried again. Again, the scorpion stung him and fell back in.The sadhu tried again and again, but the same thing happened over and over.
A passerby noticed what was happening and asked the sadhu, “Why do you keep on trying to help the scorpion when it keeps on stinging you?” The sadhu replied,”The scorpion's nature is to sting,it cannot give up its nature, but my nature is to save. Just like the scorpion, I cannot give up my nature.” Saying that, the sadhu continued trying to save the scorpion, and eventually the sadhu saved the scorpion.
This is a very good example of compassion. Just like this, it is very important for everyone to show compassion to others in all ways.
